PARADISE LOOP

Twelve strangers wake up in a mysterious hotel called Pandora’s Box with no memory of how they got there, or even who they fully are.  Their only instruction comes from a mysterious entity known as the Benefactor: “explore.”  However, for two amongst their number, a different purpose is in store.

In this game, you will select your character and take them on a journey as they learn more about their past, the place they’ve found themself in, and the other guests.  And, depending on your choices, there may even be a little murder.

CHARACTERS

AVANT: Our first playable character. Avant is a Pride
Demon who is always convinced that he is the smartest
person in the room. He is rude and often thoughtless,
but his outward confidence masks a deep paranoia.
PLUM: Our second playable character. Plum is a Gluttony
Demon, though she finds that title to be a poor fit. Plum is
cheerful and sweet, but is held back by her anxiety and
vicious temper.
RHYTHM: Our third playable character.  Rhythm is a
simple Sloth Demon who finds it hard not to speak her
mind, even when it gets her in trouble. She is energetic
and bubbly, and is very protective of her sister,
Rhyme.
TAIGA: Our final playable character. Taiga is a Pride
Demon who is all business. His goal-oriented nature
often gets in the way of his relationships, but he's not
as cold as he seems.

THE REST:

BLITZ: Blitz is a Wrath Demon with a zest for life and a
cool confidence that draws others her way. While she
likes to sometimes play dumb, there is a cunning intellect
barely  hiding beneath the surface.
NEMU: Nemu is an antisocial Sloth Demon with a sense
of derision for everyone in his proximity, including himself.
Despite this, he does have aspirations of doing something
to help humanity demonkind in a huge way.
NEON: Neon is a Greed Demon, driven by her never-
ending quest for knowledge, often at the cost of her own
well-being. She is a born leader with a clear vision of what
needs to be done and how to get there.
PLATINUM: Platinum is a Greed Demon who is used to
getting what she wants. While she maintains a smile
where she can, she is no pushover, and will speak her
mind while couching the  worst of her thoughts in a
veneer of respectability.
RAZZMATAZZ: Razzmatazz is a boisterous and goofy
Envy Demon. He loves being the center of attention, but
his insecurities often cause him to blunder social
 interactions in a big way.
RHYME: Rhyme is a Sloth Demon, but nobody is really
sure why she's here. She's easily flustered and sometimes
comes off as dumb, but her sweetness and optimism
brighten the lives of those around her.
SAGE: Sage is a Lust Demon. Despite this, his driving
motivation is love. He falls head-over-heels for someone,
then dedicates his life to that person. While he may come
off as a buffoon, he's more perceptive than one might think.
SWEET: Sweet is a Lust Demon who just doesn't quite
feel like he fits in. He is always trying to find new ways to
reinvent himself, but nothing ever seems to fit. He's a real
people pleaser, and despises himself for it.

GAMEPLAY

This is the standalone first part in what will be a three-part series, with each installment dedicated to one week in-game.

Once you've chosen your character, you will wake up in Pandora's Box, a colorful hotel run by a mysterious Benefactor. Through a series of visual novel vignettes, you will learn more about this hotel, its occupants, yourself, and the killing game that lies at the center of it all. The decisions you make, be it who you talk to, or how well you perform your assigned tasks, will impact the outcome of your story, as well as your experience in subsequent entries.

ROLES:

Each character has a pre-determined role for the week: killer or lamb. As a killer, your goal is to eliminate every lamb until none remain. As a lamb, you have your run of the place. You may not even realize you're playing a killing game at all until the bodies start turning up.

DAY CYCLE:

There are seven days in the week, and each is further divided into three parts: morning, afternoon, and night. Once you've completed the mandatory story beats for the hour, you're released to do as you please. You can befriend your fellow guests, keep the hotel neat and clean through a variety of minigames, or even sleep the day away. Just be careful; you can only do one activity every hour.

FRIENDSHIP:

There are four levels of friendship that can be achieved in this installment. Every character starts at friendship level one, though depending on which character you're playing as, you may find that some guests are more inclined to like you from the start. During your exploration time, you are free to talk to perspective friends, and if you talk to them enough times, their friendship level will increase.

At level two, you may find your new friend opening up to you more about their lives, or even asking you for advice. At level three, your knowledge of your friend is put to the test. If you prove that you know them well enough, you can unlock gifts. And at the elusive level four, your friend may drop in on you from time-to-time for a free chat. If you're lucky, you'll get their phone number so you can talk to them whenever you please!

Not every character is available every hour, so choose your conversation partners with care. You may prefer to slowly build friendship with multiple characters, or focus all your energy on having a single best friend. Good luck!

KILLING GAME:

As a killer, you will sometimes find yourself in a situation where the opportunity to kill is too good to pass up. Once the deed is done, however, you've got some clean-up to do. Do what you can to hide the body, dispose of evidence, collect alibis, and maybe even find someone to frame.

INVESTIGATION:

Once the bodies have been found, its time to investigate. Hunt down all of the evidence you can. Check out rooms you think may be related, talk to the other guests for insight, and find items that you think may be related. Sometimes, you may want to obfuscate the truth, so there are plenty of red herrings that can be thrown into the mix.

TRIALS:

Once the investigation is finished, it is time to go to trial. Not only must you attempt to figure out who's responsible for the murder(s), but you must also take on the harder task of convincing your teammates that you've come to the correct conclusion. Alternatively, if you're a killer, your goal is to muddy the waters as best you can, without making yourself look too suspicious.

Not every trial can be won - sometimes, no matter how good your choices may be, the deck is too stacked against you. But though you may lose the trial, there is no way to truly lose the game. You are judged on how well you perform in the eyes of the Benefactor, not whether or not you succeeded.

WARNINGS:

As this story is centered around a killing game, there are some dark themes, including murder and psychological harm. There is cartoon blood and violence, as well as drug references and occasional swearing.

SUMMARY:

This is primarily a character-centric visual novel set to the backdrop of a killing game. The four player characters all offer unique perspectives on the same overarching story, and you will have to play as each of them in order to get the full picture.

Each character's story runs approximately four to seven hours, depending on how thorough you want to be, and with the number of choices you can make, particularly in regards to friendship, there is a lot of room for replayability.

OTHER:

This game is best played with a keyboard, though it is game pad-compatible.
